community that the treatment of morbid obesity with any combination
of dietary, behavior modifications, exercise plans, and drug therapy
fails 95% of the time in producing significant sustained weight
loss. Associated with morbid obesity is a multitude of co-morbid
conditions. Medical treatment of these co-morbid conditions is both
very expensive and only treats the underlying symptoms.
It is now known that Bariatric surgery, more commonly known as weight loss surgery, provides the only definitive treatment for a multitude of co-morbid conditions in the morbidly obese patient population. In addition to this, Bariatric Surgery is the only intervention which provides a significant sustained weight loss over a longer period of time. Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery, when performed by an appropriately trained laparoscopic surgeon, hastens the recovery and return to normal function. Experience and training in bariatric surgery, advanced laparoscopic surgery skills, and a commitment to long-term patient management are the requirements to a successful weight loss program. The surgeons of Surgical Weight Management Associates, LLC are dedicated to providing our patients with a program offering a comprehensive approach to the surgical management of weight loss.
